The Gray Treefrog complex represents the pinnacle of natural camouflage. These 'chameleons of the forest' can blend into a lichen-covered oak branch so perfectly they become invisible. Physical Description

Behavior
Primarily nocturnal. They are excellent climbers using their specialized toe pads. When threatened, they tuck their legs in to hide flash colors or remain motionless to rely on their incredible bark-mimicking camouflage.
Diet & Feeding
Insectivorous. Diet includes moths, beetles, crickets, ants, and spiders. They are sit-and-wait predators that often congregate near artificial lights at night to catch attracted insects.
Reproduction
Breeding occurs from late spring to summer. Triggered by heavy rain and warm nights. Males call from vegetation near water. Amplexus is axillary. Eggs are laid in small clusters of 10 to 40, attached to aquatic vegetation.
Vocalizations
The two species are visually identical and can only be distinguished by their calls. Dryophytes versicolor has a slow, melodic trill, while D. chrysoscelis has a faster, harsher, higher-pitched trill. The call is a loud, bird-like 'r-r-r-r-r-t'.
Life Cycle
Eggs hatch in 3–6 days. Tadpoles are distinctive with colorful, often reddish or orange-tinted tails to distract predators. Metamorphosis takes 6–8 weeks. Juveniles are often bright green before developing gray/brown adult tones.
