Description
A master of disguise, the Gray Treefrog is the ultimate urban survivor. At rest, it blends perfectly with lichen-covered bark, yet it can transform into a vibrant green when moving through foliage. It is frequently seen by homeowners clinging to windows, where it uses its specialized toe pads to hunt insects lured by interior lights.

Physical Description
A relatively small, plump treefrog with a robust, rounded body and a short, blunt snout. It features large, prominent eyes with horizontal pupils and circular, adhesive toe pads on all digits. The hind legs are long and powerful for jumping and climbing.

Behavior

Reproduction
Breeding occurs from late spring to mid-summer, triggered by heavy rains. Males call from vegetation near water. Amplexus is axillary. Females lay packets of 30-40 eggs attached to vegetation in ponds or vernal pools; total clutch size can reach 2,000.
Vocalizations
H. versicolor has a short, melodic trill (slow pulse rate), while H. chrysoscelis has a faster, more metallic-sounding trill. To the human ear, it is a loud, bird-like 'r-r-r-r-et' sound that carries a long distance.
Life Cycle
